It is rare that we come across a dog who doesn’t at least quietly stare (and drool) when we are eating, if not try to steal food from the table. Who can resist those big brown eyes? People food is generally not good for dogs, though there are some fruits and vegetables that are ok, like carrots, for instance.
Other fruits and vegetables that are NOT good for dogs can be very toxic. Grapes are toxic. Star fruit, bananas, cherries and kiwi contain the minerals sodium, potassium. A high proportion of sodium, potassium is hard on a dog’s kidneys. Cherries can cause increased heart rate, rapid breathing, shock and even death!
Sugar is very difficult for dogs to digest and can cause intestinal blockages.
Fruits such as: peaches, plums, guava, mango are ok in moderation, but all have large pits so if you want to feed them to your dog in small amounts, remove the pit because the majority of the seeds of melons and fruits contain cyanide which can cause diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In addition, guava cause constipation in dogs.
